Matlock, Derbyshire

 

The town of Matlock is situated on the edge of the Peak District National Park. A former spa town lying alongside the River Derwent, Matlock is the historic County town of Derbyshire.

The popular tourist resort of Matlock Bath is a short distance away following the course of the river valley which is renowned for its industrial heritage sites.

The town also a vibrant centre for shopping and tourism enjoying good transportation links to both north and south, and offers lovely places to eat and drink and many attractions. So whatever your insterests or budget, Matlock has something to offer everyone.

The newly renovated parks alongside the River Derwent are ideal for families with boating, play areas and a skateboarding park, all linked with easy walking paths. The town is also home to Peak Rail, where at weekends you can ride on one of the many regular steam trains or even enjoy a footplate experience and drive the train yourself.

Train: Trains from Derby operate along the scenic Derwent Valley Line to Matlock. Journey time from Derby is just 32 minutes.

Bus: Main bus services to Matlock include the hourly Transpeak service from Nottingham, Derby, Belper, Bakewell and Buxton, with services every 2 hours from Stockport and Manchester. An hourly bus service also operate from Chesterfield. Services from Sheffield and other local towns also serve Matlock. A good network of Sunday bus services also serve the town. Throughout Matlock, local town bus services operate regularly Monday to Saturday.
