Derby, Derbyshire

Derby is home to exclusive designer shops and the shops with all the big high street names, located on pretty paved traffic free roads to allow maximum enjoyment. With a mix of culture and history alongside modern enjoyments, there are many bars and restaurants to grab a quick bite to eat while you take in everything Derby has to offer.

Why not take a stroll up Irongate to Derby Cathedral, which not only has the oldest ring of ten bells in the world but also has the second highest perpendicular tower in England. The Cathedral is the final resting place of Bess of Hardwick Countess of Shrewsbury – the second wealthiest and most powerful woman of the Tudor age after Queen Elizabeth the First.

There are so many attractions, museums and historical buildings for all the family to learn and enjoy.

Regular farmers' markets are held monthly in the central Market Place and you can come and explore and find a special item to take home numerous antiques and collectors' fairs throughout the year.

Derby Museum and Art Gallery has many fine works on display, with works by one of Derby's most famous sons, Joseph Wright and a fascinating range of displays of artefacts and antiquities covering the natural world, social history and militaria. The museum also hosts a regular programme of temporary exhibitions.

For a great stay away with plenty to see and do, Derby has a lot to offer.

Derby Cathedral - Derby

Like all other Cathedrals, Derby is much more than a beautiful building. There are long periods of calm and quiet and visitors are always welcome to walk round, to sit and enjoy its peace, to join in worship, to light a candle or pray.
